When a range of water-soluble products became available for machine embroidery, an opportunity arose for yet more experimentation with fabrics and threads.
Originally these products were used to sandwich fibres ready to be stitched over, then the stabiliser would be rinsed out. However, if the stabiliser is not completely rinsed out, it is possible to mould the piece around, say, a glass, and create magical 3-d pieces.
During the workshop we will discuss the different types of water-soluble fabric available, collect a selection of fabric scraps, threads, glitter etc., prepare the water-soluble fabric and create a sandwich with the water-soluble fabric, scraps etc., ready to be stitched on the sewing machine.
The stitched piece will then be rinsed to remove the water-soluble fabric and placed over a mould to dry.
Please note: A sewing machine is required for this workshop.
